Surgery Day

Today was the big day! We woke up early and had to be at the surgery center by 630. My stomach was in knots when I first got up, but as the day went on, I definately felt more peace. Thank you so much for your prayers-they were so beneficial!

One thing I was concerned about was Fisher's mood-not being able to eat after midnight is never a good thing for an 8 month old! On top of that, he was woken up early and his surgeon ran a little late. He didn't end up going back to the OR until around 8. He did SO good! He was happy and smiley, but never upset. Thank you God!
We're here!

Playtime!
After we got to the surgery center and got checked in, it was time to wait. Fisher got dressed in his lovely yellow gown and matching socks, got weighed, and put his ID bracelet on. We signed his surgical consent paperwork, talked with the nurse and anesthesiologist, and then waited for about an hour to an hour and a half until it was time for surgery.

so sweet and stylish!

When everyone was ready, Fisher picked out a toy from the Bunny Tunnel, we handed him off to the OR nurse, and then we waited. It took about two and a half hours until both procedures were finished. The eye doctor finished his tear duct probe in about five minutes, and the rest of the time the urologist, Dr. Giel, spent working on his hypospadias. We spent the time praying, wondering, watching TV, and playing on our phones.

Dr. Giel finished surgery around 1100. She said everything went great and gave us our post op instructions and incision care. Then, FINALLY, we got to see Fishy again!

his IV-they had to stick him twice to get one, but thank goodness he was gassed by that point and didn't feel it!
We hung out in the recovery room for a while, waiting on Fisher to wake up some more. He nursed and we got a few more instructions from the nurse. Funny thing-the recovery room nurse worked in the PICU at Lebonheur for 20 years (over 20 years ago!), so we enjoyed talking to her! Finally, it was time to go home!
IV is out, but he still has his bandage on-it has cars on it!

so drugged

this is what 2 mg of morphine and 1/2 teaspoon of lortab looks like!
Now we're just focusing on the recovery process. There are bandages, lots of stitches, ointment, pain medication, and lots of other things to take care of. Fisher can't take a bath until Saturday, and even then he can only take a shower. He can't be in his jumperoo or any other straddle toys for about 3 weeks.

Right now he is sleeping. He has been a little bit more fussy, but very easily soothed and rocked back to sleep. We're continuing to pray for a relatively pain free recovery and that our little boy is back to his normal self quickly. Thank you so much for praying with us and supporting us through this! I know it's a relatively minor procedure, but any surgery is major when it's your baby. We'd be happy to never have to do it again!

A Boy and His Dogs

Fisher loves our dogs and they are equally interested in him. He's always smiling and talking to them, and he loves petting them and sitting on them.

They're especially interested in Fisher now that he's eating (and dropping) food!

Duchess is always ready to be petted and loves to try to lick Fisher. Lenny is still working on liking being grabbed by little hands!

Fisher was reaching for Lenny and she wasn't having it! She moved so fast! Ha!

Prayers Please

I'm asking you to please lift Fisher up in your prayers tomorrow as he undergoes surgery. He's getting his hypospadias repaired. It's an outpatient surgery, but his momma is still nervous! Please pray for the surgeons, anesthesiologists, and everyone else involved in caring for our baby boy.

I'm holding on to the verse from 2nd Timothy, where it says that God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power. I'm trusting that Fisher will come through his surgery just fine! Also pray for his comfort during his recovery. Thank you so much! We appreciate your prayers during this time!!

January Recap

I realized I forgot to post any of the pictures that I took with our real camera last month. I tend to use my phone most of the time because it's so convenient, but I do still take pictures witht the camera! We didn't do anything particularly memorable in January, but we still had fun making memories!

We played on the bed:

Valentine's Goodies

I always got Valentine's Day goodies from my parents growing up, so I knew I wanted to continue the tradition for Fisher. I think even just a little something lets kids know how special they are. And, it's fun to buy him things! :)

He got a card (of course!), a Valentine book, and a plate and bowl. Since he's eating more real food now, I thought it would be a perfect gift for our little Valentine!

for me??

let me read my card first

I love my new bowl!
We had a wonderful Valentine's Day celebrating with Fisher!
