21 week ultrasound

Today, we went to my 21 week OB appointment, and we were so excited to get to see our sweet baby on ultrasound! This was the "big" ultrasound that looked at the baby's measurements to make sure he/she is grwoing correctly. I am so happy to report that we got a clean bill of health! The baby looks great! That made this mama sooo happy. I've been very worried about this ultrasound-would there be a 4 chambered heart and an intact diaphragm? Would there be enough amniotic fluid?? We've just been praying and praying that we would not be so anxious and just be able to enjoy seeing our baby move and show off. God does answer prayer! Not only is the baby growing and developing right on schedule, but my anxiety level was greatly diminshed! As a PICU nurse, I know so much of what can go wrong, so it's hard not to be concerned. Here's some pictures of our baby!!
21 weeks and 2 days old.

14 ounces-the baby is doing a "woe is me" movement with his/her arm!!

heart rate 145

moving and kicking!
The baby is breech right now, and I think his/her feet are stomping right on my bladder! It's so awesome being able to see your baby move and then feel the movements, too. Our baby is definately a puncher and a kicker!! The ultrasound tech said he/she has big feet-I hope he/she grows into them!!

My doctor's report was good, too. I've gained 13 pounds, but they weren't very pleased with my monthly gain. Apparently my appetite is catching up with me. :( I'm going to have to work on that. I go back in 4 weeks for my 25 week checkup, and I'll have my glucose test done then. I feel like things are moving so fast!!

I hope you enjoyed reading all about our baby, if you made it to the end of this!! :)

One Decision Down, Many More to Go!

We finally made one decision regarding the baby-what he/she will sleep in! It's really hard to decide on everything, as we're finding out. We chose a DaVinci crib. We thought it would be darker than it really is, but we still like it. Nellie put it together for me while I was at work. :) He's nice like that! So, the baby has somewhere to sleep, but nothing to sleep on, ride in, wear...Well, at least we got one thing done so far!! :)

February Snow

We have had a record amount of winter weather this year. I love snow, not ice. We have gotten snow more times than I can ever remember getting before. While I didn't get to play in it a lot, the last time it snowed Nellie and I went sledding with some friends of ours. It was so much fun!! I don't have any pictures because it was so dark, but we took some pictures of how our house looked in the winter wonderland!

Beautiful!

Tucker is here!!

My sweet friend Brittanie, who I've known since we were 2, and her husband Jonathan recently welcomed their first baby on February 11. He was a stubborn baby, and insisted on cooking until almost a week past his due date!! He weighed 8 lbs and was 21 inches long, with some blond peach fuzz for hair. I was so happy to be able to visit this little guy only a few hours after he was born! I am so excited that our baby will grow up knowing Tucker Wiley, and I hope they will be forever friends like his momma and me!

Hello world!! He was so awake!

The proud honorary aunt!! :)

Boy or Girl??

One of the questions we get asked a lot is "Do you know what you're having?" or "When do you find out what you're having?". Our answer is always, "We don't know and we're not finding out until the baby gets here.". People are either: A. excited about not finding out and think it's really cool, or B. thinks that's the dumbest/weirdest thing that anyone has ever done. Thus, I feel the need to explain why we're not finding out, not that it matters...

Ok, so the baby itself wasn't a surprise, but you get the point! :)

Quite simply, I've never wanted to find out what we're having. Long before I was married, engaged, dating, etc., I had already decided that I would never find out the sex of my children before they were born. And I hoped my future husband would go along with it! :)

My mom never found out with any of us, probably because they just didn't do ultrasounds then. I always thought it was the neatest thing, and I am so excited that we finally get to experience that!

Unless you've been there, in the hospital room when they announce that it's a boy or a girl after months of not knowing, you really can't get it. The overwhelming excitement and joy that you feel are unable to be put into words.

Would I be any less excited about having a baby if we did find out the sex beforehand? Of course not. But, no matter what it ends up being, we're keeping it, so why does it matter?? I realize people will never agree on finding out/not finding out, but those are our reasons. In case you cared :)

Super Bowl Sunday

I hope everyone had a great weekend!! I worked on Saturday, and we relaxed on Sunday. Sunday night we watched the Super Bowl at home. We thought about going to a party, but we were both tired and not in the best of moods to be around other people (ha!). So, Nellie watched the game while I worked on a paper for school. I did take the occasional break to see what the score was, and more importantly, watch the commercials!! Some of my favorites...

The Doritos commercial with the pug-too cute!!
LOVED this one!!!
This one was very cute, too!!
And I liked the Bridgestone commercial with the beaver!
I did not care for the Doritoes ad where the guy licked the cheese off the other one's hand-beyond gross!! And Kim Kardashian's Shape-Ups commercial was just a little too much for me.
BUT, the worst parts of the entire game/presentation was the singing...where do they find these people??!! Don't get me wrong, I like listening to the Black Eyed Peas and Christina Aguilera as much as the next person (ok, probably not as much), but they both did beyond horrible on their songs!! I mean, how do mess up the Star Spangled Banner?? And I haven't thought the Black Eyed Peas could sing ever since they were on Saturday Night Live a while ago.
Yes, she apologized for messing up. But, isn't that what rehearsal is for?? And it's not like she's new to performing.
I watched both of those performances with a lot of disgust, and I was really glad they were over!! Ugh.
Oh, and the Packers won. Yay for them. I don't particularly like Pittsburgh, mostly because of their quarterback, but you would not have found me crying if they would have won.

This concludes my Super Bowl post/rant about the "singing" and what not. Thanks for reading!! :)
